Maidstone Girls Grammar School were recently treated to a visit from Megan Belt, a member of the Kent Women’s team, past England Development player and the Women’s Cricket Southern League leading wicket taker for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.
This was another visit in the Chance to Shine ‘Inspire Programme’ to engage secondary aged students into the game of cricket. As part of this programme, Maidstone Girls Grammar School have benefitted from the support of Adrian Crust as their Community Coach as they look to master the basic skills in the softball cricket game. This year the school also entered the Chance to Compete Softball Competition, competing well with some of the best schools in the County. The purpose of introducing Megan to the girls was to support the growing interest in girls cricket at the school and introduce them to her specialist skill, off spin bowling.
Helen Fagg, Community Cricket Officer, said,
“The girls that Megan coached had an excellent attitude to give it a go. All had an equal amount of enthusiasm and determination to master the tricky new skill of off spin that she was showing them. There was some significant improvement during the session and the girls also had the chance to compete in their own mini World Cup!”
Each session ended with an opportunity for the girls to ask Megan questions and find out more about this inspirational yet humble Kent player. Thanks go to Megan and Heather Shave, teacher at Maidstone Girls.
