Kent Champions Linton Park Under 13’s hosted and beat Sussex champions Horsham CC by 43 runs to progress to the last 16 of the ECB National Under 13 Cup.
Choosing to bat first Linton openers Max Butler and Harrison Fermor did well to survive against a lively opening Horsham attack led by Devyan Patel and Sam Martin-Jenkins. Linton were indebted to captain Butler who laid the foundation for a late run surge with a composed 30 (retired). The late impetus was provided by Tom Rowe with 20, and Toby Hughes 15 not out (2 4’s 1 6). Linton took 17 runs of the final over of the Horsham innings as they closed on a competitive 101 for 3 after 20 overs.
Linton needed to get off to a good start in the field and Harrison Fermor took a wicket with the first ball of the innings to dismiss Horsham skipper Ollie Haines. Horsham then subsided against the opening attack of Fermor (3 for 6) and Rowe (3 for 8) to be 14 for 6 after 6 overs. Jacob Davis (20) offered some resistance for Horsham but Max Butler took 3 quick wickets (3 for 10) to see Horsham dismissed for 58 in the 17th over. Linton’s fielders offered excellent support to their bowlers with 7 catches being taken in the outfield during the Horsham innings.
Next up for Linton will be Middlesex champions Eastcote in the Southern Regional Finals Day held at St Albans CC on Thursday August 3rd.
