Linton Park Under 13’s bowed out of the National Knock-out at the Last 16 stage at the South East Regional Finals held at St Albans School.
Put in to bat on an overcast morning Linton struggled against the accurate opening attack of Middlesex champions Eastcote. But it was a middle order collapse triggered by Aditya Narayan (2 for 14) and Rishi Tapar (2 for 23) that left Linton with it all to do at 30 for 4 after 13 overs. Coming in at number six Toby Hughes took the attack to Eastcote and top scored with 21 but Linton’s innings closed on a below par 68 for 7. Linton stuck to their task with discipline in the field and made run scoring equally difficult for Eastcote whom eventually reached their target in the 15th over with opener Niyam Shah retiring on 31.
In the afternoon matches Linton played Royal Ascot CC whom had surprisingly lost their semi-final to Shenley. In a side that boasted 8 Berkshire Under 13 players Royal Ascot punished a tiring Linton attack for 200 for 5 in 20 overs. The most economical bowler for Linton was Abishek Pushpavinothan with 1 for 21 in 4 overs. However, the Linton youngsters showed real determination in response and though they came up short in reply Abishek Pushpavinothan 31 (retired), George Taylor 35 (retired) and Harrison Fermor 30 (retired) all struck the ball well as Linton went on the attack to close on 137 for 7 wickets in 20 overs. It brought an end to a fantastic run in the ECB run competition that saw Kent Champions Linton Park finish in the top 4 of the 400 competing clubs in the South Eastern Region at the Under 13 age group.
