Revamped and restructured for 2014, Chance to Compete has been all around the County so far in May. Three headline competitions are available to schools this year which are the Super Eights (entry level hardball), Girls Only and Mixed Softball.
Before the half term we've seen the cluster festivals followed by Finals Day for the Super 8s as well as the Girls Only competitions, all of which have showcased some excellent Cricket.
For the Super Eights, Upchurch Cricket Club played host for both the Under 13 and Under 15 Finals Day, a tremendous facility which also plays host to the Kent Women's team. As such the pitches provided were top quality and gave the young players an excellent experience.
The Super Eights is an entry level competition in which District and County players were not eligible. The purpose being to encourage schools and young people to experience hardball cricket against those of a similar level. Whites were not a requirement and all kit was made available by the Kent Cricket Board.
Despite constant threats of weather inteference, both days were able to conclude in the dry and all games were played in the Spirit of Cricket.
Again, weather threatened to intervene with the girls competitions which were hosted in Bexley and Sandwich and again Cricket triumphed as the sun shone through. The girls displayed excellent cricketing ability and again played all games in the true spirit of the game.
The County Champions of Kent for the Girls competition is still to be confirmed, but in the Super Eights, Hayes School once again take the Double - crowned champions at both Under 13 and Under 15. We wish them all the best at the Regional Competition at Springfield Cricket Club, Essex in July.
Finally a huge thank you to all of the clubs involved in hosting the competitions...
